Research in Motion, now renamed to Blackberry has finally cut the ribbon for their much anticipated Blackberry 10 Operating System and announced 2 devices. The all touchscreen Z10 and the familiar bold style device called Q10. Both running Blackberry OS10 with all the latest in mobile technology.
When the device becomes available for purchase, I think I’m going to have to retire my Samsung ATIV S in favor for the Blackberry. Windows Phone 8 is good and all, but there are some basic things that it does that annoys me. Such as Facebook chat from the native messaging client doesn’t sync properly with Facebook chat. Messages are delayed on both Facebook chat and Whatsapp.
I’ve been following BB10 ever since they announced it years back? And it does have a lot of potential. What Blackberry really needs to fix and or optimize is their Blackberry App World. They’ve always been extremely slow even on fast internet connection. It takes a few minutes to download 1MB programs while it takes other app stores mere seconds.
Another thing Blackberry needs to resolve is quicker boot time. My previous experience with the 8900, 9700, 9800 and 9900 was that rebooting the phone takes anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes where it takes phones like Windows Phone 8 or Android about 1-2 minutes at most before everything is usable. Blackberry has always been slow.
However, there is one thing that Blackberry has always been able to excel with, is the optimization for great battery life. The battery life on my previous battery was that I can use it for more than 1 day before I need to charge. My Samsung ATIV S surprisingly is the first all touch smartphone that I don’t need to recharge at night and still have enough battery life for the next day. I hypothesis is that with the lack of applications, I use the phone less than the Galaxy S3. LOL nonetheless it’s still a great phone for texting and emails.
I shall see what happens when I get to play with the devices in person!
